So, we've come to the end of 2013! In this post I'm going to do a round-up of my favourite blog posts, polishes and collections from the past year, and talk about a few other highlights and general favourites of the year.

When it comes to Christmas decorations I'm kind of a traditionalist. I don't like pink/purple/blue etc, especially not on my tree! I always stick to red, gold and green (maybe a bit of silver!) and I thought together they'd make a super christmassy gradient.

Today I'm excited to be showing you one of the brand new piCture pOlish collaboration shades! This is Moody Blues, created with Hannah of Polly Polish, and I believe it's the first collaboration with a British blogger which makes it all the more special. Hannah was kind enough to gift a bottle to me so I could try it out!

My love for Barry M's 2013 Autumn/Winter polishes, the Matte and Royal Glitter collections, is no secret. They mix and match so well together and it's easy to create simple, classic looks with them. The mattes in particular go great with small studs!

I can't get enough of the Distressed technique at the moment! My Halloween take on it was my most popular post for October. As green is my favourite polish colour (and incidentally the most pain in the bum to get colour correct...typical) this combination was inevitable!

Tonight I'm going to see my favourite band in the whole world ever, Coheed and Cambria. As appears to be the norm for me now, I did some nail art for the occasion! If you're not familiar with the band then this manicure probably will mean very little to you, so I'll give a very brief explanation of each nail (y'know incase anyone cares!)

I'd been lusting after the Lacquer Lust (very apt name) Birthstone polishes for a while, so when Rainbow Connection got them in stock I grabbed a couple! Obviously I had to go for Peridot because it's my birthstone, and as luck would have it it's my favourite from the collection anyway.

I don't often post single swatches any more, but I have some gorgeous polishes lying around that need a place on my blog! This one is Speckled Mint by Sportsgirl, an Australian clothing shop that's apparently kind of like Topshop, and Nail It! is their nail polish range. This was sent to me by lovely Hannah of Polly Polish!

Happy November the 5th, aka Bonfire Night aka Guy Fawkes Night aka get wet and watch some fireworks night! I think I'll be staying in tonight, the weather looks crap and I'm an old lady who prefers a blanket and a cup of tea ;) I have however done my nails for the occasion!

Today I had a go at the Nimbus technique, as seen on The Nailasaurus. Mine turned out quite differently but that's the beauty of tutorials, you sometimes get many different outcomes! Alex pointed out in the comments that this looks like a Bokeh effect, and I agree!

Before anyone freaks out, no, I am not branching into blogging about make-up! For one, I don't have the expertise (or the application skills!) - my knowledge lies firmly with nails. I'm merely sharing a product with you that I tried and loved and outing my secret lipstick obsession!

I have a special polish to show you today! 2013 marks the 20th birthday of QVC, and OPI have designed a new polish especially for QVC to mark the occasion!

Does anybody else ever accidentally schedule their posts for AM instead of PM? I keep doing it! I scheduled this one for 6am instead of 6pm, so quickly deleted it before realising I'd have to write it again. I need to give my head a wobble. Anyway, I've named this one striped tie-dye, because that's what it reminds me of even though that isn't what I was originally going for!

Today's post is a bit of a special one - pictures and details from my night at the Cosmopolitan Blog Awards! The picture above is probably my favourite of the night - Sammy, Lucy, Me, Alice and Amelia all crammed in a photobooth! Read on if you want to see more pictures from the night.

I'm a little later with this than I wanted to be, but finally I have swatches of the new Barry M Berry Cosmo polish and the new Crystal Glaze top coat!
Thursday, 26 September 2013
All of the new Barry M Autumn/Winter shades go so well together, the mix and match possibilities are endless! The Royal Glitters particularly look nice as an accent nail with the Mattes, for example. Today I've done a tape mani using 2 of the Royal Glitters!

I'm back! My holiday was great and it's nice to have a little break now and again. Big thank you to my guest posters, Sammy, Danielle and Hannah!
I have some nail art today featuring colours from the Nicole by OPI Selena Gomez collection, along with some swatches.

My third and final guest poster is Hannah from Polly Polish. Hannah was probably the first person from the blogging world who I began speaking to regularly outside of social media realms, and she's become a good friend and I appreciate having her around to vent to and discuss ideas with! She's also a fantastic designer and has been known to furnish me with wonderful nail mail. She does lovely tape nail art and gradients, and I'm happy she's created one for my blog today.
I hope I'm not the only nail polish blogger for whom the awful affliction of cack-handedness strikes at the most inopportune moments. I had such grand plans for this guest post because I'm so excited to have been asked by Allie - she's bloody amazing so I feel quite honoured. What you see here is my 6th attempt at creating something worthy of appearing on Brit Nails, and I'm still not sure I achieved that target. Nevertheless, these are my gradient nails for you today, in my favourite colour, grey.
Even sat here writing this I am wearing a grey dress, cardigan and slippers. It might make some people sad, but I love it. The gloomy effect of these nails is particularly apt given the turn in the weather lately too.

My second guest poster is Sammy from The Nailasaurus. I'm sure most of you, if not all of you, are familiar with Sammy's blog already! The Nailasaurus was one of my first inspirations when I started out blogging and still is today. Sammy is a master of studs, stamping, striping tape, gradients and tutorials, amongst many other things. I'm always excited to see a new post from her in my feed! Recently she's been doing amazing galaxy nail art and she's created some just for my blog which I'm very happy about!
Hello readers of Brit Nails. First off I have to say a big thanks to Allie for inviting me to post for her and putting her trust in me today! I’ve decided to show off some pastel(ish) galaxy nails. I’ve been completely obsessed with this style of nail art recently. The bright colours make a nice change from the traditional dark and mysterious galaxy nails, especially in the summer months. My obsession combined with how easy this nail art is makes it one of my go-to styles when I’m short on time or inspiration.

I'm on holiday for a week as of yesterday, so I've arranged 3 guest posters to help me out while I'm gone! I was planning on having more, but I left it a bit last minute and was, as always, disorganised. I'll arrange it better next time! (so she says).
The first post is courtesy of Danielle from Totally Nailed. I came across Danielle's blog a little while ago and I love her nails and clear pictures. She posts lovely nail art and mixes it up with swatches too. She also does a very good spray marble which I wish I could achieve!
I am very happy to be doing a guest post for the lovely Allie, she is of course one of my favourite blogger ladies and so, so talented! It’s quite the honour. I have been dying to do some monochrome nail art for a while now, so what better time than today.

Here is the next installment of my swatches of Barry M's Autumn/Winter releases! Today it's the turn of the Royal Glitter collection, 5 sparkly glitter texture polishes all with Royal inspired names.

If you're anything like me, you'll be more than happy to wear bright colours on your nails all year round, but there's something very palette cleansing about neutral Autumn and Winter shades, and we all need something to go with our cosy chunky knits and boots! Step forward Barry M's matte polishes, 5 sophisticated, warming shades that you'll almost definitely be able to wear at work!

Hi! I have a UK indie brand to show you today. It's great to see UK indie polish springing up, for so long there was nothing at all! I considered starting one myself around a year ago but I realised I am far too lazy, so I'm happy to see motivated talented ladies around the UK doing it.
This particular brand has the best name ever...Hairy Legs. Not a name you'll forget in a hurry! I also can't resist the quirky logo on the bottle stickers. Hairy Legs creator Sanita sent me 4 polishes to try.

I'm excited and nervous today because I've just sent my RSVP for the Cosmopolitan Blog Awards! I'll be heading down to London in October to meet with some amazing bloggers, Sammy of The Nailasaurus, Lucie of Lucy's Stash and Alice of One Nail To Rule Them All. It'll be like some sort of nail blogger invasion. Can't wait!
Today's nail art was inspired by my slightly strange love of triangles. My base colour is OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, and I freehanded all of the little triangles with a small nail art brush. Colours used are Barry M Pomegranate and Barry M Guava.
