Barry M Matte Nail Paint Swatches and Review

Press Sample

If you're anything like me, you'll be more than happy to wear bright colours on your nails all year round, but there's something very palette cleansing about neutral Autumn and Winter shades, and we all need something to go with our cosy chunky knits and boots! Step forward Barry M's matte polishes, 5 sophisticated, warming shades that you'll almost definitely be able to wear at work!

The formula of matte nail polish is different (obviously) to regular glossy polish, and can be somewhat trickier to apply if you're not used to it (it can tend to drag, dry too quickly or cause bald spots) but even a fool (read: me) could apply these ones! The formula is thicker than normal polish but it applies very easily, and I'd recommend using thick coats. They are very matte (sounds odd to say that, but in my experience it is possible in some cases for matte polishes to not be very matte!) although Mocha perhaps leans towards a satin finish. The names are all coffee inspired, which to a coffee monster like myself just spells cravings!

One thing I did notice with 2 of the shades (Vanilla and Caramel) is that it separates every so slightly on the first coat and looks a bit oily on the nail. It's not a big deal though as the second coat clears it up. Perhaps something to do with the formula of the lighter colours? Enough babble, onto the polishes.

Vanilla is a light grey with almost lilac undertones. I used 2 coats.

Espresso is a perfect black matte, not much else to say here! I used 2 coats.

Caramel is a creamy nude and I found it to be a little more sheer than the others so I used 3 coats, but you may find 2 is enough.

Mocha is melted milk chocolate brown and as I said earlier, leans towards a satin finish. I used 2 coats.

Crush is a very deep burgundy wine colour. 2 coats here

I'm suitably impressed with Barry M's first foray into matte polishes and I really can't find much fault with them. They're perfect for the Autumn/Winter season and I wonder if we'll see bright mattes for next Spring/Summer? I hope so!

The Matte collection will be available in Superdrug stores from September 25th, and Boots stores from October 2nd. If you're lucky enough to live anywhere near Topshop in Oxford Circus, they're available to buy in there now! Priced at £3.99 each.
