Barry M Gelly Nail Paint Summer 2014 - Swatches, Review and Comparisons

It's Gelly time again! Not long after we were treated to the Spring shades, Barry M have announced a summer collection for 2014. Swatches of all 7 shades and comparisons ahead!

I know what you're thinking - these are an odd collection of shades for a Summer release. I thought the same! I was expecting brights of some sort, so it was a surprise to see this mix. I'm not complaining though, I love a good neutral and we do get a few brights thrown in too! As you'd expect, they're all super glossy with nicely pigmented formulas that fall between a jelly and a creme. It does vary slightly from shade to shade but I'll go into more detail on each swatch. Whether you use top coat is up to you, you certainly won't need it for shine purposes! I haven't used any top coat in my swatches.

I've included some comparisons of shades that people have asked about, scroll to the bottom if you want to see those!

Almond is a light taupe shade. Not sure how I feel about this one! I don't dislike it but it's not something I'd go nuts for (get it? sorry...!) I used 2 coats. No streakiness here!

Elderberry is a dusty cornflour blue, teetering a little on the grey side. A pretty nonchalant colour, I quite like it. 2 coats here

Kiwi is a jade green and not similar to any other greens in the Gelly range. Love this one, of course! Highly pigmented and no streaks. 2 coats

Coconut is a creamy off-white. Absolutely love this, it'll make a great base for nail art in the way that OPI My Vampire Is Buff and My Boyfriend Scales Walls do. Not hugely pigmented but also not as sheer as you might expect. I used 3 coats, but you may only need 2 if your nails aren't as big as mine!

Olive is, well, a light olive green. Makes me think of camouflage. It's a welcome addition to my stash as I don't own another like it, but would I wear it alone? I haven't decided! Surprisingly pigmented, I used 2 coats

Pink Punch is a lovely bright hot pink. Fantastic formula, so pigmented and smooth! 2 coats

Lastly, Damson is a bright blue that I want to describe as cobalt? Anyway, it's gorgeous! So glossy it looks almost photoshopped in my pictures. 2 coats

Comparisons

Here are all the neutral shades across the range. As you can see, nothing very similar at all!

Damson and Blue Grape (from the original Gelly collection) Blue Grape is much more of a royal blue.

Pink Punch and Grapefruit (also from the original collection) Grapefruit is more of a bubblegum pink and not as intense. The difference is even more clear in real life!

Elderberry and Huckleberry (from the Spring 2014 collection) very obviously different!

So there you go, another beautiful set of gelly shades from Barry M! Overall I'm happy to have the neutral shades included, it adds to the huge spectrum of colours offered in the Gelly range (although can we have a nice bright yellow at some point, pretty please Barry M?!) Which ones will you be picking up?

My picks: Kiwi, Damson and Coconut

  7. Long nails and pretty nails :)

My favourite is Kiwi, definitely, Damson on the second place. I thought I'd like Almond more but I prefer Lychee - Almond looks good though. Blue Grape looks brighter on your swatches than mine.

  8. Quite an interesting yet odd collection for summer, definitely different from everything else on the market for the next season. The bright look amazing, though some of the more neutral dusty shades have caught my attention. Great swatches!
