Barry M Autumn/Winter 2014 Gelly Nail Paint - Swatches and Review

Barry M Gelly 2014

When this post goes up I'll be on holiday in Wales (and still on a high from my previous post) and due to it being last minute I haven't been able organise any guest posts! So I'm leaving you with these swatches of the brand new Barry M Gelly Nail Paints for Autumn/Winter 2014.

Barry M has pretty much taken Autumn and bottled it with these shades! All six remind me of a beautiful crisp Autumn day (I'd better stop before I get too poetic) and they also have a cool retro vibe to them. We also see yellow joining the Gelly family for the first time! It's not quite as I expected the first outing with yellow to be, but it really works well.

The formulas here are fantastic, they are all pretty much one coat polishes if you do a thick layer, and they level out perfectly; as a rule though I always do 2 coats. They're also super glossy and very pigmented, as we expect from the Gelly range! I haven't used top coat in any of my swatches.

Mustard is, well, a mustard yellow! Perhaps not to everyone's taste, but I really like it, and mustard is going to be in for A/W 2014! 2 coats

Chilli is a spicy brown with a strong red tone. Or is it a spicy red with a strong brown tone!? Either way it's quite a nice colour but not my favourite of the bunch. 2 coats

Paprika is a ginger sort of brown (is that even a thing? My colour descriptions are questionable sometimes) and has a very retro 70s kind of vibe. This was hard to capture correctly, it leans a bit more brown in real life. 2 coats

Chai is a medium grey, seems to me to be a pretty true grey with no blue undertones. I love this one, so glad to see a grey Gelly! 2 coats

Cardamom is a gorgeous foresty green, pretty unique in my stash I think. Always happy to see another green in the collection! Buttery smooth formula, 2 coats

Lastly, Cocoa is a rich dark brown which leans a little red in some lights. So glossy you can almost see my face in it! 2 coats

Barry M Gelly 2014 Comparison

I've done a quick comparison of the red/brown shades, it was hardly needed though as they're all different but here it is anyway!

Barry M Gelly 2014

There's no need for comparisons with any previous Gelly shades as there's nothing even close! I love these colours (I know, I love all Gelly collections, I can't help it) and the brown tones may not excite everyone but it's filling up the Gelly colour spectrum nicely! You just can't beat these polishes in terms of quality and price.

My Picks: Cardamom, Chai and Cocoa (Mustard deserves a mention too!)

Availability

- These will be coming to Superdrug on August 28th, priced £3.99 each.
