Barry M Midnight Gelly Swatches

Press Sample

Barry M have launched some new Gelly shades for Autumn/Winter '15, including these 4 dark and mysterious shades which are completely different to what we're used to when it comes to the Gelly range. In the picture above, you'd be forgiven for thinking they all look exactly the same, but there are subtle differences which you'll notice in the larger pictures.

The Midnight Gellies are very dark, blackened shades and are highly pigmented. Although I didn't experience it myself, shades like this can be prone to skin staining to be careful during application and always wear base coat. The formulas are consistent throughout, very smooth 2 coaters and I found them to be more self-levelling than previous Gelly polishes. On the first coat you'll see the colour much more obviously, by the second coat they build up to the almost black you see in my pictures. Depending on your light source, the colours will show through more or less.

I'm happy to report the flat brush that we've seen in the recent Speedy Quick Dry collections has finally made it to the Gelly range. I find that this makes a huge difference in application, I can get a neat line around my cuticle and use less brush strokes for a flawless finish. The flat brushes won't please everyone, especially those with tiny nails, but I think most people will prefer them.

While shades this dark aren't usually for me, I think one or two are essential for an Autumn/Winter wardrobe and they're a nice alternative to a basic black. Are dark shades your thing?

  6. These are really vampy and so squishy! Stunning swatches! I imagine they would be quite versatile for many things too. I wonder how they marble?

  7. Love darks, when I'm in the mood for them. My favourite is black cherry. It looks like nails Inc Victoria, easier on the pocket. Black grape is a nice dark navy, the jelly look is different than my other navy's.
