Zoya Micky and Hazel - Swatches and Nail Art

It's a week of firsts for me, continuing with my first ever Zoya! I've been dying to get my hands on some Zoya for a long time now so I was really happy when Nail Care Club offered to send me some.

Micky is from the Summer 2013 Stunning collection. It's a rose pink creme with hidden shimmer! I've said it before, I love me some hidden shimmer. It's not very evident unless you're in the sunshine, but I love it anyway! I used 3 coats and top coat. It was a little bit streaky to start with but the last coat sorted it out. It's so glossy!

Hazel is from the Summer 2013 Irresistible collection. It's a silvery blue foil with lots of gold flakes, which makes for a unique polish in my collection! I used 2 coats.

I love the combination of silver and pink, so I did some quick nail art using both polishes and some striping tape.

Pretty happy with my first Zoya! I love the bottles and the fact they all have girl's names, too.

You can buy Zoya in the UK from Nail Care Club, which is the official UK distributor. They're a little bit of luxury at £10.50 a bottle, but it's reflected in the quality. Do you own any Zoya? I want to get my hands on the rest of these collections!

Random Swatch Saturday - OPI Designer De Better

Here's the second edition of Random Swatch Saturday, AKA me going through all my unswatched/untrieds.

This is Designer De Better by OPI, from the 2011 Muppets Collection. I loved this collection when it came out, I was so excited for it! I have the mini collection and a couple of full sized bottles too.

Designer De Better is a champagne coloured foil with little bronze flakes, which make it really shimmery. I used 2 coats and top coat.

This is quite a unique foil in my opinion, the bronze flakes are so shiny and shimmery!

Barry M Copper - Swatches

Hi! Before I start, I wanted to ask if any of you ever got offered paid advertisements...I've never had it before but somebody asked me earlier. Are they generally legit? Is it worth doing? I have no idea. Help!

Anyway, this is Copper by Barry M, one of their newest polishes. It looks very similar to OPI Warm and Fozzie, and I might do a comparison post soon (I'd have included it here but I didn't think I owned warm and fozzie...but on closer inspection, apparently I do. Oops).

Click the pictures to enlarge.

Barry M Copper

It's a copper foil full of gold, pink and red flecks. I think I see green too?

Barry M Copper

It flashes copper/brown/gold depending on the light source. It's super pretty and in this case pictures really don't do it justice.

Barry M Copper

Application is perfect, really smooth and it's opaque in two coats, but you might want to watch out for bald spots!

ORLY Emberstone Swatches

Before I start, UK girls...where do you buy your acetone!? I swear I cannot find any anywhere! Help!

Okay, here is another one I got in my swap with Melissa, Emberstone by ORLY, from the 2011 Mineral FX collection. Is it red? Is it orange? I've looked around and everyone has a different opinion. Personally I would say orange, or coral.

Don't forget to click the pictures for full size!

ORLY Emberstone

It's a jelly-like foil (I think that's another finish I just made up) packed with gold flecks, and some smaller pink/purple particles.

ORLY Emberstone

The formula is wonderful, glides on easily and is opaque in 2 coats. It's so eye-catching, shimmers loads in the sunlight and is like nothing else I own, very unique!

ORLY Emberstone

It looks like I want to EAT IT. Or lick it. Of course I will actually be doing neither.

Click the jump to see it with a matte topcoat!

Barry M Instant Nail Effects Lilac Swatches

Here's another of Barry M's foil effect nail polishes, this time in Lilac. You can see my post on Gold and Silver here.

This is a really pretty, subtle shade of lilac. It reminds me of princesses! (Fairytale ones, not Kate Middleton ones).

It's a one coater, though you may want to apply two to even out streaks (as with all foils this is a bit streaky, but its definitely not unmanageable) .

I really like Barry M's foil range and I hope they release more colours in the future (pink...hint hint)

Also, if you haven't left me feedback on my tutorial, I'd be grateful if you would! I'll also soon be having a belated 200 follower giveaway! :)

Valentine's Hearts

I did this quite quickly earlier today, so that is my excuse for the hearts being less than neat and looking slightly like tiny bums. My cuticles are looking better though right?

Base is Models Own - Lili's Pink, a super cute pink shimmery foil.
I then did the messy hearts with Models Own - Utopia and a nail art brush. I brushed on a layer of Models Own - Juicy Jules and finished by outlining the hearts with a nail art brush.

My ring finger is the one with the piece of teabag on it. Whoever came up with that idea is a genius! Though I imagine it will snap off completely before long. Being such a tea lover though I don't mind carrying a piece of tea around with me all day long :P

Barry M Instant Nail Effects Foil Gold and Silver Swatches

I had high hopes for these because I love Barry M polishes. The official word on them is -

"Instant Nail Effects foil is an amazing addition to our Nail Paints. It is applied like any other Nail Paint but with a luxurious foil finish previously only acheived from a salon manicure. It only requires one coat and is very quick drying."

The finish did end up being quite nice, but I had some trouble with visible brush strokes, leading to me needing more than one coat on some nails. It did dry quite quickly though.

As you can see, there's visible brush strokes no matter how hard I tried! It goes on like silk, which does make it somewhat fiddly to manage. It looks lovely in sunlight though! (see below)

The silver was a little easier to apply, I didn't end up with as many brush strokes.

Overall I wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be, but I'll definitely be using them again. Maybe practice makes perfect when it comes to the application of foil finishes. Also, I hear these polishes are really good for stamping, so that alone makes them worth it to me.

You can get these in Superdrug for £3.99 each.

Rimmel Starlet Swatches

Here's another of my favourite polishes, from the Rimmel 60 seconds collection.

If there's one word I'd use to describe this polish, it'd be juicy! Kind of strange I know, but looking at it makes me thirsty! It's a jelly-like finish, yet at the same time it could be described as a foil. I can't pin it down.

It glides on effortlessly and two coats is perfect. Please mind the massive gaps between my cuticles and the polish, I don't know what happened there! :\

I added a matte topcoat, and it looked gorgeous! I definitely love it more with a matte finish.

Rimmel Your Majesty Swatches

I'm thinking of having a 50 follower giveaway, since I seem to be close to that amount now. I have no idea when (or, indeed, if!) I'll hit 50, because I have no idea how to drum up more followers, but I'll announce the giveaway when it happens. I've never done one before so I hope I don't mess it up! Any tips? help?

On to the polish. This is one of my favourites from my collection, I always seem to be using it in nail art and just on days when I'm too lazy to do something creative!

Your Majesty is a fabulous silver foil. Very shimmery and beautiful, it really stands out.

The formula is wonderful and applies like a dream. My pictures are two coats, no top coat. I find it seems to be pretty hard wearing, even without a top coat. The only thing is, it takes a little while to dry thoroughly, but it's only £2.99/8ml so who can complain? Anybody else have a favourite foil they'd recommend?

Bonus picture of the polishes I bought last week:

17-  Magnetized Blue, Rimmel - Sunshine, ORLY - Fowl Play, Nubar - 2010.

Models Own Green Flash Swatches

Hi! I've been gone for a few days, but me and my nub nails are back. I've decided to post this swatch I did a couple of weeks ago, because I love it, but somehow managed to forget about it, so here it is.

Green Flash is the same finish as Mystic Mauve, metallic and foil-like. It also has elements of shimmer and flashes silver in the sunlight.  The formula was easy to deal with and I used two coats, no top coat.

You can really see the silver shimmer in the light, whereas in the shade (below) it's a deeper green.

It really is lovely! I've been posting a lot of Models Own lately due to my haul, but I might do a couple of other brands for my next posts. I need a bit of a change!
