Clinique - Nail Enamel for Sensitive Skin - Swatches

I have swatches of some of the brand new Clinique range today! Click the jump for pics and info

The new range from Clinique is designed especially for sensitive skin, and according to the press release, has been six years in the making and is formulated to minimise skin sensitivity. I have to admit I have no idea whether Clinique has ever made polish before or whether this is a completely new venture!

The permanent collection consists of 12 colours, and there is a further 9 limited edition colours for Summer 2013.

Hula Skirt (limited edition) is a light green creme. I found this to leave bald spots on the first coat, but adding further coats fixed it. I used 3 thin coats.

Call My Buff (permanent collection) is a very sheer off-white jelly. I wouldn't use this on it's own due to the visible nail line, but it's probably going to be great for jelly sandwiches! The formula is great and spreads easily. I used 3 thick coats.

Red Red Red (permanent collection) is a classic red jelly. I should apologise for the bad pictures, my camera and lighting set up HATES reds! Almost as much as I hate reds! It appears a little darker in real life. Again the formula is good here, I used 2 coats but 1 would have been enough.

Strappy Sandals (limited edition) is a silver foil, and looks in the bottle like a lot of other silver foils I own, but on my nails it actually looks a lot nicer...there's no visible brush strokes and it's super sparkly and bright! I love the name too.

I admit I was a little underwhelmed by the colours, but I can't fault the formula, apart from a little trouble with Hula Skirt. I love the flat brush too as it makes for much neater application, and I love the minimalist, classy bottles. I'm undecided whether I would buy any myself, although some of the colours in the limited edition summer collection look like they could be nice!

I've never really given much thought to nail polish being bad for the skin before and I've never seen a range for sensitive skin either. Has nail polish ever damaged your skin? I'm quite intrigued by this!

  1. They aren't the best colours I've ever seen. I like Call my bluff, not so sure about the rest though x

  2. Call my buff is a little disappointing, if only it was more opaque. My favourite outta these is strappy sandals! So cute.

  3. I have incredibly sensitive skin and I have never found a polish that damages my skin before, so I find it odd that Clinique have brought out this range x

  5. I have had a reaction to nail polish before (for me it was Models Own), I blogged about it: http://joeyannenails.wordpress.com/2013/03/11/allergies-stupid-allergies/

Since then I've stuck to 3 free polishes which are generally fine, though I do still get an occasional reaction (swollen lips, and dry flaky skin around nose, mouth and eyes). I've used Clinique skin care and make up for a number of years and am looking forward to trying the nail polish. I had a chat with one of the sales reps yesterday who was really helpful and explained how Clinique pulled their previous nail polishes off the market because they couldn't guarantee they were suitable for those with sensitive skin, and had spent years researching a new formula for these.
