Barry M Silk Collection Swatches and Review

Hi! Today I have Barry M's first release of 2014 to show you, the Silk collection. I don't know about you but I've been anxiously awaiting some new Barry M since last year!

Barry M is starting the year off with some fresh pastel shades and I have to say, they're quite a nice palette cleanser. They dry down to a soft matte finish with a slight sheen, which is where the Silk name comes from. I was a bit worried they'd have an overly frosty finish (I'm not a big fan of frost finishes!) but they get away with it because they aren't glossy.

The formula is quite thin so I'd recommend building up thin coats for perfect coverage (don't overload your brush!) I've used 3 thin coats in all of my swatches, and application is the same throughout the colours. I've included a picture with a glossy top coat as I know some people were interested in that. In my opinion the addition of a top coat brings nothing to the table at all, it just gives them more of a pearl finish. I much prefer them matte and silky!

Mist is a pale blue pastel. 3 thin coats here

With top coat:

Blossom is a soft baby pink. 3 thin coats

With top coat:

Truffle is a soft tan shade. 3 thin coats

With top coat:

Heather is a pale lavender shade. 3 thin coats

With top coat:

Pearl is, well, a pearly white! 3 thin coats

With top coat:

Lastly is Meadow, a pale spring green. 3 thin coats

With top coat:

While I wouldn't say this kind of polish is my thing exactly, I can't deny the great quality of them, or hide my excitement that Spring is on it's way!

My picks: Meadow and Heather

  7. Shimmery frosty matte? Yes please! I want all of these... your swatches are lovely, and I like how even with topcoat they aren't overly frosty in the brushstrokey kind of way. I wish Barry M was sold in more countries!

  8. Truffle is my fave but I fear they may be a bit too frosty for me... Great swatches though

  9. Wow! I love the colours, but ir's a pity you had to apply three thin coats to become opaque.

  18. I picked up Heather yesterday - I really like it! It's exactly the sort of thing I like, although I understand why some people prefer less shimmery colours. Truffle also looks good :-)
